Active Shooter Emergency

  • We follow the ADD Response: Avoid, Deny, Defend

    • Avoid is the first action to be taken if possible in the event of an active shooter

      • Staff will direct class to evacuate a certain direction through walkie-talkies or in person

    • Deny

      • If avoiding is not possible you should deny access to you and your class

      • Engage the door lock, have kids move to the wall the door is on, turn the lights off, and barracked the door

      • Stand by the door in case evacuation becomes available

    • Defend

      • While trying to deny access to shooter, have adults grab items to defend in case denial fails

      • When defending be aggressive and do not stop until the attacker is disarmed and stopped

  • If you ever make contact with the police put your hands up and follow directions
