Chapter 2 - Safety and Policies
Active Shooter Emergency
We follow the ADD Response: Avoid, Deny, Defend
Avoid is the first action to be taken if possible in the event of an active shooter
Staff will direct class to evacuate a certain direction through walkie-talkies or in person
Deny
If avoiding is not possible you should deny access to you and your class
Engage the door lock, have kids move to the wall the door is on, turn the lights off, and barracked the door
Stand by the door in case evacuation becomes available
Defend
While trying to deny access to shooter, have adults grab items to defend in case denial fails
When defending be aggressive and do not stop until the attacker is disarmed and stopped
If you ever make contact with the police put your hands up and follow directions
