Lesson 3: Build Relationships

You are more than a volunteer! You get to make an impact in these children’s lives and that impact comes through building relationships with them.

• A child’s favorite word is their name, so learn each child’s name and ask them about themselves

  • Try to relate to them and talk about their interest

  • At the beginning and end of each service is a great time to bond with the children

• Be intentional with every child

  • Remember things they talk about and ask them how things went, like their softball game or gymnastics competition

  • Do special things for them, like write them a birthday card or bring them their favorite candy

• Children will learn best the love of Jesus in the interactions with their leaders more than they learn from a lesson

What you are doing is highly valuable and you get to be an important part of a child’s spiritual formation!
