in our community

“DO GOOD, be rich in good works, be generous and ready to share thus storing up treasure as a good foundation for the future so that you may take hold of that which is truly life.” // 1 Timothy 6:18-19

You were made to do good.

Every act of kindness — big and small — matters. There’s lots of work to be done; join us as we do some good together to help others around us flourish.

We have six ways for you to serve in our community…

1) Serve with our partners.

Our non-profit partners depend on volunteer support to love and serve their clients with the love of Jesus. Let us help connect you to an organization you can get excited about serving with!

2) Serve on your own.

Completing a service project is a great way to get involved and make a difference in our community, but sometimes it’s hard to serve on-site with a non-profit organization. These DO GOOD DIY projects allow you to participate in a service project on your own terms.

Each project contains step-by-step instructions. They are great for individuals, families, or a group. If you complete a project, be sure to let us know how it went! That helps us measure and celebrate the collective good we do in our community.

3) Make a difference for a child in foster care.

Join a Care Team

This is an ideal first step to support a foster family before making a deeper commitment. Care teams provide help with meals, babysitting, outings, and transportation to foster families 1-2 times a month.

Be a Respite Family

Do you have the capacity to be an aunt/uncle to a child in foster care?

Can you be available for overnight care as needed (potentially for consecutive nights)?

Can you support a foster family and child by providing day and/or evening support to a couple?

Be a Foster/Adoptive Family

Do you have the capacity to have children come live with you for days/weeks/months while the birth parent(s) works on correcting issues that stand in the way of their relationships with their children?

Oftentimes these children have unique needs, and can be different from your own children.

4) Mentor at a local school.

Walk alongside a child at one of the Oconee County schools.

Through the Oconee Area Resource Council (OARC) Mentor Program, you can make a difference in the life of a child, and come to find that child makes a difference in your life, too. Mentors make a positive difference in the lives of students by serving as a positive role model, a listener, a helper, and a friend. Mentors commit to meeting with their student 30 minutes per week, typically over a student’s lunch period. Mentors commit to one school year.

A one-time training is required and lasts just under an hour. Mentors complete a background check at this time.

5) Invite a co-worker or friend to our bi-monthly Lunch With A Leader.
