Secret Church 2017

Secret Church 2017

Secret Church is our version of "house church" where we meet periodically for an intense time of Bible study—lasting 6+ hours—including a time of prayer for our brothers and sisters across the globe who are facing persecution and for those who still have not heard the gospel. This time is led by author and IMB President David Platt, and we will simulcast the event along with thousands of other Christians around the globe.

THIS YEARS TOPIC - SCRIPTURE AND AUTHORITY IN AN AGE OF SKEPTICISM

The Bible is the foundation for faith among followers of Christ in churches around the world. Yet many such Christians never think to ask why this is the case. After all . . .

  • How did we get this holy book?
  • Who decided what would and wouldn’t be included in it?
  • How do we know it’s true? Are there any errors in it?
  • Is it necessary? Is it sufficient? Is it authoritative for my life?
  • How can I understand it?

Even as Christians ask and answer such pivotal questions, the culture around us asks even more pressing questions: Isn’t the Bible antiquated and outdated? Isn’t it chauvinistic and offensive? Isn’t it downright deceptive and ultimately dangerous?

During this Secret Church, we will explore answers to critical questions about the Bible in order to discern what place it should (or should not) have in the lives of Christians and the implications those answers have for our lives, our families, and our churches in the culture around us.

A NOTE FROM PASTOR CARLOS:

The church conference will include some very exciting and important information regarding future ministry on our property.  For many months we have talked about the potential of adding additional ministry space.  At our conference I want to present a fresh look at what that space would be and offer some explanation on why we need to move ahead on providing the space.  We have believed for many years God would have us maximize the use of our property for making wholehearted followers of Christ and to help plant churches that do the same.  Our conversation Sunday will help us see how we plan to continue on that mission. You will receive a copy of some conceptual plans and information about how each area of ministry is enhanced by having this additional space.  Many of you are new to our church since we first looked at these ideas.  Our meeting Sunday will be a fresh start at getting us all on the same page.  This meeting will be followed up with a meeting on March 12 for the purpose of voting on those plans.  When the time comes for that vote we want to have communicated as clearly as possible to as many people as possible all of the “whats” and “whys” for the project.  Please make Sunday's conference a part of your plans.

A few other items will be covered in our conference.  Those items include information about the search for an Executive Pastor and some very good news regarding our 2016 giving and the 1590 House purchase and renovation.  Finally, the 1590 House has been renovated and is now being used for staff offices, meetings, and Sunday morning classes.  It has rapidly become an important piece to our ministry.  We want you to see it!  So Sunday, before and after the conference, the house will be open for you to walk through.

Mingling of Souls Marriage Conference

Registration for this event is closed.

For Late Registration email Robbie@watkinsville.org for availability.

What is Mingling of Souls? A marriage conference taking place February 10th and 11th. We will be tuning in for the Live Watch Party of The Mingling of Souls led by pastor, author, and speaker, Matt Chandler. Topics include: The Covenant, Progress, Common Grace, and The Long Game.

What will be covered?

The Covenant: Marriage is bigger than just a man and woman. God is accomplishing something in this union. His work is in the lives of the husband and wife but it’s also cosmic and eternal. Understanding this sets our expectations in a way that is helpful and fruitful.

Progress: God is working on us, in us and through us. That means we aren’t yet what we will eventually be. Our spouse plays an integral role in how God mercifully reveals and restores areas of weakness and opportunities to grow.

Common Grace: God is good and gracious. He gives good gifts to all men. The Christian knows what God is up to in these gifts (worship). Romance, friendship and sex are good gifts, created by God to be cultivated for our joy and God’s glory.

The Long Game: God is a God of blessing and legacy. How do you play the long game and dream for your children’s children? We look at how to play the long game through varying seasons of life and finish strong.

When is it? Friday Night Feb 10 and Saturday Morning Feb 11: Both days will include a Q&A Session with Matt and his wife Lauren Chandler via Live Text and Twitter.

What are the details for the event? After you register for the event, we will email you a few days before the event with instructions for our meeting location at the church and what time to show up. Here is an overview of the schedule for the event:
