A Report from our Delegates at the SBC

Thank you for making it possible for some of our staff to attend the Southern Baptist Convention in Birmingham this week. We are a part of close to 9000 other delegates in attendance hearing reports, making decisions about future issues facing the SBC and celebrating God’s activity in the  spread of the Gospel. In fact the theme of the entire meeting has been “Gospel Above All”.

Important issues dealt with this week involve how the 40,000+ churches of the SBC address issues of sexual abuse, racial reconciliation, and declining numbers of baptisms and church membership. Encouraging reports heard this week involve the success of new church plants outside the south and around the globe. For example 41% of all Baptist churches in the US Northeast have been started since 2010 and 18% of all baptisms for the SBC in 2018 came from churches planted since 2010. This is a reminder of how important our work is in Boston.

As in each year the highlight of the week for me is the report from the International Mission Board. Once again this year we participated in a sending celebration of dozens of new missionaries headed to plant their lives among the most lost populations of the world. Every year this reminds me how important our gifts are through the Cooperative Program and our Acts 1:8 Offering.

On the local front thank you again for the hard work with VBS! It’s time now to turn our prayers toward Youth Camp. About 100 teens leave for summer camp on Monday. PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR WEEK!

Sunday is Father’s Day and I’m excited about Psalm 61. Read ahead and notice the amazing love and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father in that great psalm.

I love you!

Pastor Carlos
