Day 15

Luke 10:25-37

Who is my neighbor?

Most of us think of the people that live near us or beside us in our neighborhoods when we read this question.  We also visualize people that look and think like us.  Our homes, clothes, customs and tastes are similar.

One day, a man that was an expert in the law asked Jesus this question.  The man knew the Law but he wanted to test Jesus in regard to who his neighbor was.  Jesus responded with the story of the Good Samaritan.  The Jews and the Samaritans hated one another.

Why didn't the priest or the Levites stop to help one of their own people?  Maybe for the same reasons we use....too busy, not a good time, I'm late, I don't want to get involved, someone else will help.

Jesus makes it clear that all of mankind is our neighbor...from across the street to across the globe.  The parable was about helping a neighbor physically, but we are also called to help our neighbors spiritually.  God gives us opportunities everyday to love our neighbors.  Are we spiritually ready?  Pray that God will give you the words and actions needed when He gives you these opportunities.  We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
