Exactly one month from today we will be in the middle of, what I believe is, the best week in the life of our church each year…..Vacation Bible School, aka VBS. I say this because every year it is awesome to see such a STRONG response from our church family, as we come together to see God do life-changing things in the lives of so many people in, and even outside, of our community.
The VBS theme this year is Galactic Starveyors, and the motto is Searching the Visible, Discovering the Invisible. From Sunday, June 4th through Thursday, June 8th, we will look at the visible evidence that an invisible God loves us so much that he sent his one and only son, Jesus, to die on a cross for the sin of all mankind.
If you have experienced VBS in the past, you know that countless hours go into the planning and executing of this event each year; but every bit of it is worth it when, at the end of the week, a small group leader turns in a response card that says a child prayed and trusted Jesus as her Savior and Lord. And when I think back to all the people that God used directly and indirectly to draw that child to himself, it is truly amazing. To realize that everyone who serves leading up to and during the week of VBS plays a significant part, no matter how small they think their service might be.
There are many ways you can use your gifts and your time to help us this year. Below are a few ways that you can serve:
- PRAY – for the children and un-churched families that will be on the property
- TENT – 25 men that will help on Saturday, June 3rd, set up the big, white tent, set up chairs in the LIFE building, and help with any other final details.
- LEADERS – male and female small group leaders, as well as help in nursery classrooms and rotations: such as recreation, crafts, snacks, etc.
- DECORATING and LIGHT CONSTRUCTION – during the day and evenings from May 30th to June 3rd. There are even projects you can take home.
