Your expressions of love and appreciation this past Sunday were overwhelming. Thank you, dear friends, for loving our family in such meaningful ways. Your letters, which I’m still reading through slowly, are inspiring and so encouraging. Throughout my sabbatical the “abounding steadfast love” of God was a recurring theme whether reading or listening or watching His handiwork. You drove that truth deep into my soul by your actions this past weekend. I love you, and I’m excited about the days ahead with you.
Reading was a part of my sabbatical. In scripture, I read from Psalm 23 to Psalm 103 and from Galatians to Jude. With a pen in hand I made notes and underlined verses as the Spirit spoke through God’s word. I usually read just a few verses at a time and just thought and listened and prayed over them.
Of the books I read I want to highlight four. If you are looking for something new to read I believe one or all of these would be a wise investment.
1. The Life You Always Wanted: Spiritual Disciplines for Ordinary People by Ortberg
2. When Sinners Say “I Do”: Discovering the Power of the Gospel for Marriage by Harvey
3. The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath by Buchanan
4. Leading on Empty: Refilling Your Tank and Renewing Your Passion by Cordeiro
Blessings on Your New Year,
