God has said: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 (quoting Deuteronomy 31:6)
Jerry owned a diesel mechanic shop. He had four children – all boys – and they all turned out well. The oldest had a distinguished career in the military. The second went to Georgia Tech on a baseball scholarship and graduated on time. The third and fourth sons both went to Florida State on football scholarships, graduated on time, and played in the NFL – one for the Packers and the other for the Cowboys.
As a young father of three small children, I sought out Jerry for advice on how to raise good kids. I have never forgotten his response. He looked me straight in the eye and simply said: “Be there.” I understood his meaning. To a child, L-O-V-E is spelled T-I-M-E. I was busy working to build my business. I was busy in the church. I was busy in the community. Certainly, we were busy at home. But, I did not miss the baseball games or the dance recitals or the chorus concerts. I was there. My children always looked for me and gave me that unique head nod that we share that says “I see you and I know you are here.” My children knew I loved them for many reasons, but chief among those reasons was that I proved they were important to me by being there for them.
God is there for us, too. Wherever we go, whatever we do, regardless of the time of day or night – God is there. He promises us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He will always “be there” for us – no matter what. Rest easy in the loving arms of your Heavenly Father as you think about the fact that He is always there for you – right there with you wherever you are.
