A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Preparation. We often think of this word as one that is no fun - a headache and a bother rather than something beneficial. But the Lord uses times of preparation to allow us to understand and draw near to Him. He gives us grace as He draws us unto the Father, readying us for His perfect will and showing us how to walk with Him in the midst of the unknown. My temptation is to despise the times of preparation, wanting instead to enter into the new season and forgo the refining process of being made complete in His timing.
It is in the times of preparation that we are tested by the Father. He shows us our true selves and asks us if we are willing to obey in order to grab ahold of what He has in store for us. Will we grow frustrated and impatient when He takes us through the valley and instead long for the mountain? Or will we respond to His call and press in to know Him deeper, begging for His presence and allowing Him to ready us for that which He has prepared for us? The choice is ours alone.
Today, let us pray that we allow Him to move in us in all seasons. Let us ask that He prepare us to receive more of Him.
